We got our first look at the Washington County 2025 Budget this week.
A major proposal is to put ALL county employees on what's called a "Step Plan". Here's my understanding of it:
A step plan is designed to incrementally increase employees' pay through the salary range related to their job titles. Under this kind of plan, employees would usually receive a fixed pay rate increase each year based on a pre-set schedule, until they reach the maximum for their range. A lot of government agencies use it. In Washington County, currently only the Road Department and Sheriff's Department employees are on this kind of plan. Putting the entire county workforce on one step plan may require some adjustment to the current plans of those two departments.
At the October 8, 2024, Washington County Budget and Finance Meeting, we got our first look at two versions of the 2025 budget - one with the step plan for all county employees and one without the new step plan (but leaving the current step plans in place for Roads and Sheriffs).
Some constituents have asked me to upload the documents from the meeting. Here they are:
And here's a link to the meeting video.
As always, please reach out to me or one of the other Justices of the Peace with your questions. Your feedback is important.
