“Washington County leaders are continuing to look at the fallout from allegations of misuse of property and funds inside the sheriff’s office — and whether certain staff positions should remain under the sheriff’s control.
At Tuesday night’s Washington County Services Committee meeting, Justices of the Peace were scheduled to discuss the county’s internal investigation into those allegations, as well as an ordinance that would transfer human resources, IT, legal, and buildings and grounds staff out of the sheriff’s office and into county departments. But after multiple motions by JP Bradley Bruns, both items were tabled — despite the county attorney advising the discussion could legally take place in open session. Some JPs argued the issues should be handled in executive session, while others called for a second opinion from the Arkansas Attorney General’s office.”
